OKAY I FINISHED HANNIBAL GUYS.
As predicted I am enraged over some aspects of it, crying over others, and generally desperate for the next season to FIX SOME SHIT.
Talk to me, people. Please. Poor
remindmeofthe has put up with me screaming all night long, it's only fair to spread the load around a little.
(Fuck me, those ending shots. BRB CRYING AGAIN.)

Date: 2013-09-04 04:49 am (UTC)there was such a LOT of shoddy logic on the parts of many characters
and legal boundaries and medical ethics are a fiction
and I have to keep reminding myself that this is EMPHATICALLY an AU and probably takes places in a magical realist universe

Date: 2013-09-04 04:56 am (UTC)That's what's the worst everyone doing what they think will fix things but it never ever will because Hannibal.
I don't know the original canon so can't compare but if thinking of it as an AU works for you, that makes a lot of sense.

Date: 2013-09-04 04:58 am (UTC)--ahem. But in what universe? Presumably the original canon? Because an Ardelia-Will interaction in the Fullerverse would be, uh, VERY DIFFERENT, I suspect.
Fucking hell though I am so mad at Crawford about everything in the world. "Are you broken, Will?" "Well yes, probably." "Okay, well, you should go back into the field with a gun and then I'll disavow responsibility when you are obviously out of your mind with illness. I told you this job would do a number on your immune system if you allowed it! Why didn't you exercise better self-control over your immune system, Will?"

Date: 2013-09-04 05:00 am (UTC)If I do anything in Fullerverse I suspect it's going to have to wait until mid-season 2, and ideally involve Alana giving Crawford a GIANT WHACK UPSIDE THE HEAD.

MAY BE FIC IDEA FOR ABIGAIL TO ACTUALLY BE DEAD, BUT TO RUN WITH ALL OF THE DEER/STAG MYTHOS, SO SHE'S ALL POWERFUL BEYOND THE GRAVE, AND IS GOING TO CALL THE WILD HUNT ON HANNIBAL'S ARSE.
Not that I have a fuckton of feelings about abused daughters trying to break away from abusive fathers/situations, or anything. Noooooope.
Also you cannot YOU CANNOT tell me that this is anything other than a magical realist universe. Nope. No can do. TOTEM POLE OF BODIES, THE HELL.
I probably have more thoughts and thinky-links, but I got home from a surprise!long shift, so I'm out of it.

Date: 2013-09-04 02:31 pm (UTC)It's just -- consistently hard for me to remember to view it through a magical realist lens, because a) it's not explicitly stated by the creator that it's that kind of universe, even though with Fuller I know I should expect it, and b) that puts it an ORDER OF MAGNITUDE away from the original universe. I don't mind! I love magical realism! It's just hard to keep in my head.
Well, okay, I do mind the magical realism a little in that it allows Fuller to get away with "a murder wizard did it!" and that makes me angry. Season 2 better fill in some of the plotholes in Will's framing in particular.
ABIGAIL FEELS BELOW:
A RL friend posists that Hannibal sent Abigail off to "another life" somewhere in Europe to save her and himself from the FBI -- after, of course, the necessary mutilations to make the frame possible -- but that honestly continues to bother me. So Hannibal continues to control her life by saving her from a situation he created? I guess I can accept it as a jumping off point to get Abigail out from under Hannibal's direct influence, and I guess I kind of have to accept that Hannibal had something to do with hiding her.
But I only accept these things as Macguffins to get Abigail rolling on her own path. If she doesn't go on to save herself and get justice, she might as well be dead.
(And that's the thing for me, especially, is that no matter what, Hannibal cannot define her story. Crawford shouldn't get to, either. A LOT of the Harris books are about victims having their stories told -- Will reading Dolarhyde's diary, Clarice seeking to understand Frederica Bimmel's story in order to catch Gumb -- and it'd be atrocious, an injustice, for Hannibal or Crawford to end up defining Abigail's narrative. Freddie Lounds isn't a lot better, but at least she's in Abigail's corner.)

Date: 2013-09-04 09:17 pm (UTC)And, yeah, with my idea for Abigail to be alive, it's so very, very, very much a springboard into her getting the resources and time to escape properly, under her own steam. There is actually...very, very, very little way Hannibal can control her once she's out of the country. The thing is...he's not god, he might be a murder wizard, but at the core of it, he's just a guy who is an abusive shrink and a serial killer. This doesn't actually lead to a lot of influence once people are away from him. And Abigail was already trying to break free and control things.
But I don't see, honestly, how her being dead is better than her being alive - alive, she's got a chance. Dead, her father and Hannibal win. Dead, she has to rely on other people to tell her story, so unless Alana takes up her case? But *hands*
And the plotholes, yeeeeeeeeeeeeeah. I'm kinda at the point where I'm...going to take my time with season two, and see if it fixes things. It pokes at a few too many of my issues for it not at least be well-crafted and more coherent.
(Yeah, that's another reason why I'm actually so very, very, very pissed off over her apparent death. She goes from someone who survived in canon, even if it's just two sentences, to a tool to use to frame Will. Just. No. No. No. No.)
