I am so, so over Moffat's issues about women. I can't even like Clara because she is exactly like every female character Moffat has ever written, and I know there's no point in getting invested when she's just going to end up with her entire existence revolving around the Doctor just like Amy and River. All I could think while watching the episode was what an incoherent mess it was. There was no new episode joy. That's how over Moffat I am.
I am legitimately, consistently amazed that Moffat makes me miss RTD. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN. Remember when Rusty had persistent problems writing black women and horribly convoluted overstuffed plotlines and "Blink" was the greatest piece of TV we'd seen in years? What the shit happened?!
I KNOW. It's alarming to find myself longing for the days of excessive Ten emo and Rose worship. I mean, shit, at least RTD respected Rose. And Martha got to keep her dignity and independence!
But then there's Donna and RTD's issues with older women and mothers (things I don't miss: constant jokes at Jackie Tyler's expense), and really it's not that he was better about things, he just had different fuckery going on. And the thought of different fuckery is refreshing after these past few years of Moffat consistently displaying his fear of female power and hilariously having no idea he's doing it.
