My cat is curled up next to me on the couch where I can't help but lean my arm on him every time I want to use the mouse. Sneaky thing. I'm going to miss him.

So! Tonight we leave Alaska for our yearly August trip down south -- and in my case, to eventually wend my way back to school. This was going to be the second Epic Cross Country Trip, with my dad and I driving the Al-Can and meeting Mom in Seattle, and the three of us driving across the country to Pittsburgh . . . but then Mom broke her kneecap and the doctors went NO FREAKING WAY, so.

Itinerary is roughly like this:

Jul. 29-Aug. 4: Seattle (with possibly a side trip to Portland).
Aug. 5-Aug. 8: Chicago and Wheaton.
Aug. 8-Aug. 10: Buchanan, MI.
Aug. 11-Aug. 14: Pittsburgh, briefly, to drop off the bulk of my stuff at my ~HOUSE~.
Aug. 14-Aug. 19: Buchanan and Chicago, ending with me being shoved on a train and sent back to the 'Burgh.

Whoooo travel. I gotta finish packing. I think I have time to shower and eat and walk to the store to get coffee first, though (assuming I get off my butt and dislodge my cat).

ETA: Also, in a display of impeccable timing by the universe, my laptop repairs are done and they're shipping my computer to . . . the Best Buy here in Anchorage. Thanks, guys. Luckily, the Best Buy folks promised they would ship it anywhere in the country free of charge if the repairs were finished after we left town, so we just have to call them up and give them an address.

And then I will have my computer back! And as soon as I get to CMU I will track down someone and say "PLEASE INSTALL UBUNTU ON THIS. Please for the love of God I will buy you dinner. Save me from Vista."

You can send the laptop to my place, if the timing works out. Since my roommates work from home it's a good place to get packages.

And I can install Ubuntu on it if you like. It's tremendously user-friendly these days. The one problem is that it tends to have a bit of trouble interfacing with laptop sleep/hibernate functions.

I was at the shop where I get my oil changed yesterday, and they are now running Ubuntu on all the PCs in the building.

If you hear the noise of someone waving in the distance as you pass through Michigan, that'll be me. =)
