So part of my yesterday was watching three eps of Doctor Who and 2.01 of Torchwood with Lil ("Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang" especially because she hadn't seen any Torchwood at all yet, and she had told me earlier in the day that while she doesn't much like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she did like Spike. And then she spent much of the ep going "SO much better than Spike!" which makes me laugh a lot because dude, that is Spike, with slightly less control over his impulses).
And while watching "The Fires of Pompeii" again, I was reminded of the brilliant, brilliant image I had watching it on Sunday:
I saw Evelina as the second companion.
I was so sure when Donna said "Just save someone" that the Doctor was going to save just Evelina -- and even when the whole family was standing watching Pompeii die, I was holding out hope for the Doctor or Donna to ask Evelina "Do you want to really see the future?"
How could you have a line like that dangling there and not take it, Rusty?
Okay, I know why -- because having a second companion would screw with the dynamic between the Doctor and Donna. ("They're getting married," Lil kept saying yesterday. We hit "Planet of the Ood." Oh, all right, Dr. Noble and Mrs. Noble. --Oh no no no we're not married. "They ARE married.") But it would be like the old days! Multiple companions! Companions from the past, or other planets! Nine did it twice, and he only had one season; Ten has had three seasons so far, and only had two companions for what, three episodes?
I was terribly disappointed to see Evelina just waltz off to teenagerhood in Rome. Francesca Fowler was so good; the character was clearly meant for more.
We also noticed that David Tennant's hair in "Planet of the Ood" is freaking EPIC. I mean. Seriously. I want to be Ten for Halloween, but I'm not sure I could get my hair to do that even if I cut it.
And now I need to go watch Titus and take a final at 1.

Date: 2008-05-06 06:43 pm (UTC)I think Quintus would have made as good a Companion as Evelina, though, in his own way. OR BOTH. BOTH OF THEM TOGETHER. I mean, lonely for the poor parents, but can you imagine it? How awesome! Plus, two Companions GUARANTEED not to have romantic tensions with each other (shut up, fandom) and you know I am a sucker for siblings and family dynamics anyhow.
And for David Tennant's hair, I have no idea. I seem to recall someone on my friendslist speculating that he's gradually metamorphosing into a giant cockatoo, which seems distressingly plausible to me.

OH MY GOD, THAT'S IT. COCKATOO. And considering what else happened in "Plant of the Ood" . . . (Lil: "Look! Even Donna is like 'That's bullshit!'")

And really I just want to see Quintus and Evelina having adventures in time and space.
Which bit? The [brains], or...? My brain is stuck on trying to remember a plot-relevant cockatoo or something, which, uh. Possibly it is near the end of the workday, here.

Date: 2008-05-08 03:19 am (UTC)And then on Planet of the Ood, I opened up an empty textedit document anyway.
Admittedly I only managed to make two comments, other than the above disclaimer.
One was about how awesome his hair had gotten.
The other was in regards to the face he made when she impugned the TARDIS' manliness.
