*flops* You know it's gonna be a long day when it feels like six o'clock at noon.

And, well, it was a long day. But between the scholarship app sent in (the day it's due to be postmarked *facepalm* At least it's not late?), the smooth IS meeting, the cheerful schmoozing with my teachers about college and class, and the two pretty good shows, I think it counts as a good day.

Despite the shows going well, I'm counting down to Sunday night. Just three more shows . . .

During the first show, I called a light cue -- lights up in Ralphie's room -- and spent about three seconds staring at the empty set where there was supposed to be an actor. Hastily, I called the cues for the next scene, forcing the two actors in it to scramble (they did an admirable job of covering, though). The event led to an interesting discussion with my father about the difference between strategy and tactics, an extended military metaphor for theater, and then ten-minute-long analysis of the Battle of Midway (by him, not me; I just listened). It was a fun conversation -- and it brought home the fact that I've moved yet farther from calling myself an "actor" to calling myself a "stage manager".

Having defined myself as an actor for the last ten years, I'm not sure how I feel about that. Displaced, I guess. *rueful smile* I need a term that's broader than actor or techie or designer. Thespian?

Then, of course, to counter that feeling, I had a moment of utterly dorky fangirlness. We've got a touring production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in the theater next door to us, running just for this weekend. I've been taking the back hallway that goes past the door to the big theater's wings for the pst few days, in the hopes of catching sight of actors in costume, or heck, just actors. No luck, unfortunately.

But I did pause long enough to hear the orchestra scaling up for the last song, and people singing and dancing, and I stood there with this goofy grin on my face, thinking, I'm thirty feet away from a Broadway musical!

And then some techie looking person came out of the door I was listening at, and I gave her a smile that was supposed to convey, Hey, a cool theatre person LIKE ME, I guess I should go do IMPORTANT STAGE MANAGERIAL stuff, 'cause I'm a COOL THEATRE PERSON like YOU, and hurried away.

Now I just need to work up the guts to say hi to some of the actors hanging out by the stage door (they're easy to recognize: they're young, beautiful, and unfamiliar) and be a friendly cool young theatre person at them. I don't want networking contacts, I don't want autographs, I don't care if they're famous, I just want to talk to them.

Here's hoping I can find time, then. As Mum and Dad pointed out, chances are I won't come across as a scary hopeless fangirl. More likely, they'll be flattered they have a fangirl at all.

So there's me. How're you guys? Do I owe anyone tags or threads?

You should just steal the term from the Greeks and use the word "Technitai" meaning anyone who works in the theatre, in any capacity!

(I believe that's the right spelling. If not, forgive my Greek. haha)

That's a great word and should be adopted. :D

It should be! It could be like "Technitai: The Revival!"

I think it could get rid of some of that icky techie/actor rivalry or whatever it is.
