So.

Mom and Dad just left.

I'm kinda on the emotional side, though I'm getting better. It's funny -- last summer, I figured I'd be so excited to be starting college that I wouldn't mind saying goodbye to my parents, and I certainly wouldn't start crying.

(In a way, I'm glad. I went through a several-year-long period where I Did Not Cry, as a sort of backlash to my childhood where I cried at the drop of a hat. But I seem to have eased into an equilibrium, which I think is good.)

There's some kind of event going on right now, but I have no particular interest in it, and would rather spend the time, oh, taking a shower when the lines aren't long, or setting up a library card, or picking up the package that's apparently waiting for me, or getting a start on working out, or just watching the last two eps of SPN s2 (PERFECT for an emotionally vulnerable state).

ETA: AHAHA. Nothing brightens up the day like getting the last third of your paycheck in the mail. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] ghost_light!

Also another DVD of Antigone! But I bought a copy before I left, so now I have two.

So today -- when I wasn't watching SPN -- a dormmate of mine, Phyllis, grabbed me and we went to explore Forbes Ave and go to the library. (Phyllis is cool. We met at the Children's Hospital, and then hung out antisocially yesterday during the orientation thing and had a BLAST.) We headed out of the dorm and as we came up on the bus stop, there was Doc and two other freshmen dramaturgs (which means now I've met all but one of the freshman class. We are SMALL BUT MIGHTY).

Who, in the course of the conversation, mentioned that Doctor Who is really dramaturgical lately. The other two dramaturgs and Phyllis gave him blank looks.

"Is it really?" I said. "I know they had Shakespeare on one of the episodes recently."

"Yeah!" Doc said. "You know Doctor Who? Geek power!"

I am seriously so excited for classes with him. I should find out if he's read Tam Lin.

The library wants proof of a local address before they'll give me a card. I wonder if a piece of mail would suffice? I'll give it a shot.

ETA: Okay, successfully got a library card. Yay!

But as I left the library, it was POURING rain, and I hadn't brought my umbrella because it was only gray when I left, so I arrived back here a drowned rat. And now all my clothes are in the dryer and I'm lounging (for a given value of lounge) in my PJs.

But WTF, Pittsburgh? I was expecting heat in the summer and fall, I was expecting humidity, I was expecting snow and cold in a few months. I was definitely not expecting three straight days of rain, with no sign of a let-up. So WTF.

It does explain why they gave us umbrellas in our orientation packets. (They are SWEET umbrellas, I gotta say, and it means you can spot a CMU student from a mile off.)
