I think I am really terribly disturbed. . . Mostly by the -- are those Oompa-Loompas? Oh God -- singing in the background. Although I quite like the chewing gum line.

And when I think about it, this may end up being much more like the Roald Dahl version. If you think Roald Dahl is all happy fun, you haven't been reading enough of his stuff. He's DARK. Read "The Swan" in the book The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. Heck, read that whole book. And Skin. Those are more adult books, of course. But Dahl wasn't afraid to be a little scary in his kids' books, too. Veruca Salt narrowly misses being incinerated. I would think Tim Burton would have fun with that, and the "There's no knowing where we're going" part. That's scary when Gene Wilder does it -- how much scarier with Burton and Depp working on it together. . . .

This is NOT a remake. This is an entirely new movie that should not be considered to be related in any way to the Gene Wilder version.
