The perks of sitting on the floor for three hours killing my fingers by building a model for design class: watching Pirates of the Caribbean on TV. And coming across ridiculous ads like this.

Having been on the sidewalk in Pittsburgh rain, when the gutters are full of puddles, I just have to say: Asshoooooole!

PS: Geoffrey Ruuuuuush ♥ ♥ ♥

PPS: How much do I want to thread [livejournal.com profile] no_one_of with people from this franchise? SO MUCH. Although I think the only character who would make a decent Dread Pirate Roberts would be Elizabeth -- she's the only one who's actually ruthless enough.

Saw Where the Wild Things Are at the midnight premiere. This is the result. I don't think it's particularly spoilery for anything -- there's only a very little bit of the new information from the movie, so if you've read the book, you should be good.

And then they made me their king. )

It is ridiculously windy outside and I love it. It's also WARM. Like legitimately warm. I also love that.

And the wind was so loud that it was providing some very nice ambient noise for Macbeth rehearsal -- especially during the "To-morrow and to-morrow" speech. It was a little creepy the way the wind died out completely just as MacB finished, though, I have to say.

Also, allow me to roll my eyes at the director, who never ordered props from the Playground organizers. Thanks. Thanks tons. If I don't find you daggers, it's your own damn fault, buddy.

I am supposed to be watching Titus right now, but I have class in an hour, so. I'll have to track it down some other time.

I worked out this morning and felt like crap because I made the mistake of thinking that I could totally do 30 minutes of elliptical without any food on board, but hey -- I worked out. \o/

Oh, I never mentioned -- so in Pirates class yesterday, we finished this ridiculous, awesomely cheesy National Geographic ripoff of PotC called Blackbeard, starring, of all people, James Purefoy. And THEN, immediately afterwards, in World History, we discussed how Peter Linebaugh and Marcus Rediker might write a historically accurate version of PotC. (I said Jack would have been a privateer, there would've been a subplot involving the slave trade, and the East India Trading Co. would still have been the major villain -- so not a lot would change, really. Oh, except Will would've been a dispossessed sailor press-ganged into service, rather than a blacksmith. The class as a whole agreed that Pintel and Ragetti and Murtogg and Mullroy would've gotten more credit, and that the crews would be more "motley" and racially balanced.)

And then we talked about the awkward racial politics of the movies. I really really wanted to get to talking about gender politics, which the prof had up on the board, but he skimmed over them -- so I was forced to go up to him afterwards and be like "We should've talked about the fact that Jack Sparrow is racially, gender-ly, and class-ily ambiguous!" He granted as to how that was true, but that Jack then served as a medium for getting the white upper class gender-static (although I would argue Elizabeth is hardly gender-static) heroes their capitalist individualistic freedom.

Sometimes Rouse redeems himself from the stain of writing absolutely horrible paper prompts.

Anyway, I've been listening to my pirate playlist a lot since then. :D?

Life is pretty good.

Two of my classes this week are focusing on pirates. One is showing some portion of Pirates of the Caribbean in class, and in the other, we were watching National Geographic's docudrama on Blackbear, which pretty clearly rips stuff off from PotC, which is hilarious.

HAHAHAHARRR. Did I mention I love my schedule?

Also, as long as I'm mentioning the Pirates Pickpockets and Prostitutes class, I feel I should point out that I stole stuff from Moll Flanders for Kim's last OOM, and for at least one of her pickpocketings in Milliways. Which just makes me ridiculously gleeful.

--Dude, someone should app Moll to Milliways. It'd be awesome. She and Saffron could battle over husbands!

I had two dreams last night that involved Valerie, one with her as the heroine/me and one as a supporting character.

X-men, Iorek Byrnison, and my dormmates. )

Funhouses, Pirates of the Caribbean, medieval representations of Jews, and sequels not being as good as the originals. With guest appearance by Rue. )

And I wake up.

And go Hnguwha?

And then go You mean I missed the climatic battle scene? DAMMIT!

On seeing Sweeney Todd again, I have two comments of very little substance:

Guess I'll cut anyway. )

2. Johnny Depp has a sexy throat. Is this weird? Is this telling you way more about me than you need to know? Probably. But in "Pretty Women," the way his throat moves on the vibrato on Pretty womennnnnn -- or in the Pirates movies, when he tilts his head back and swallows -- mmmm.

3. Speaking of Pirates . . .

Sweeney Todd: I thank you, Anthony. I would still be drifting on the sea if you hadn't spotted me.
Me: Sweeney Todd is actually Jack Sparrow gone crazy. Crazier.
BFF: Someone definitely needs to write the story linking those two characters.

I am freaking exhausted, between getting up early and fighting a cold. I'm going to do a little bit of packing and then probably collapse. I leave tomorrow night at 1 AM, and stop in Portland, Denver, and Cincinnati before getting back to Pittsburgh. Hey, [livejournal.com profile] silveraspen and [livejournal.com profile] vivien529, how's the weather down there?

All of a sudden I don't want to leave. Two weeks ago I was so ready to get back to college, and now . . . I don't want to go through the whole breakdown of leaving home again. I guess it's just now hitting that I won't be back here for a good five months, and -- oh, crap, where the hell did you come from, tears?

Jesus, I'm tired.

Oh, in better news -- I'm about 3/4 of the way through a reread of Drowned Ammet and finding it much better than I remember it being. It's been, cripes, at least five years since I read the Dalemark Quartet. Maybe it was too mature for my tastes then or something. I just remember being fairly bored by it then.

Maybe I should give Time of the Ghost another shot here, too.

3:23 AM: Have watched Rocky Horror and yelled lots of appropriately
obscene things; toseed a frisbee around some, lugged my computer
around, and played quite a bit of Guitar Hero.

Currently, I'm watching Dead Man's Chest and loving Bill
Nighy's accent all over again. Also facepalming at Bootstrap. Oh,
Bill.

Commentary! As is my habit. )

4:30 AM: Maaan I'm hungry.
