YULETIDE. I'm lying in bed squirming happily like any five-year-old on Christmas morning.
I actually got two Yuletide fics, which I was not expecting at all, and they're both delightful in completely different ways:
Out of the Clutch of Chaos, which is a post-canon Tam Lin (Pamela Dean's) fic about Janet and Thomas on Christmas morning and is absolutely pitch perfect. It reads just like the original work, and it captures all these wonderful details of Janet's life as a pregnant college student who's been threatened by the Queen of Faerie. MERRY CHRISTMAS.
Similarly kind of grim but AMAZING, I got All These Gliding Ghosts, which is about Ophelia and Horatio, GHOST HUNTERS. It's more of an AU of the original canon, providing a new explanation for Ophelia's actions in particular, repurposing lines and scenes in fascinating and beautiful and sad ways. And also Ophelia and Horatio hunt ghosts.
I should get up and make coffee now, since I'll need to be functional when my parents pick me up in forty minutes. May the rest of the day live up to this promising beginning.
