Dear Yuletide author,
Ohmygosh, ohmygosh, I have never done this before (which is why I'm so slow with this letter). I'm so, so excited. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to create something for me! I hope you have fun with this, and I hope this letter helps you out.
If you want to get a sense for the kind of fiction I write, my AO3 profile is here. (You can also check out my writing tag here, which is mostly going to show you my non-fiction blogging.) I love stories that focus on female characters, particularly women navigating male-dominated worlds, and stories that deal with gender and queer sexualities. (Gender-bending is the best thing ever.) I have a slight preference for gen fic over shippy stuff, with a couple exceptions. I LOVE crossovers and AUs, so if you see a good opportunity to bring in another canon (or two, or six, or whatever strikes your fancy) and you want to follow it, please, knock yourself out!
I'm not averse to getting a little dark and edgy (especially given the fandoms I requested, which all have a lot of dark/heavy undercurrents), but please no rape-as-plot-development.
Mostly, I hope you have a great time writing in these fandoms we both love, and I can't wait to see what you come up with.
Here's some specifics:
Characters: Nita Callahan, Ronan Nolan, Kit Rodriguez, Lone Power
Worldbuilding? Yes. Vignettes? Totally. Plotty errantry fic? Fuck yeah. Five Times something or other? Yesssss. Seriously, anything is gonna delight me here, especially if it features Nita. I would love Nita/Ronan a lot, and would be happy to see more Nita/Ronan/Kit, but don't worry about writing something shippy if you're not feeling it. (I'd rather not see Nita/Kit as romantic partners, but I am 110% here for them being best friends.)
For serious stuff, I'm particularly interested in Nita's relationship with death -- having lost so many friends and been so ready to sacrifice her own life in service of the Art -- and with the Lone Power. For less serious stuff, I love silly cracky stuff and delving into the weirder bits of the universe, like what/who besides Chao the Powers can't explain, or what it's like to be a human wizard on planets where humanoids are considered edible, or That Time The Gang Had To Pull A Heist On The Smithsonian.
Characters: Kim Merrill, Renee D'Auber, Mairelon
I am dying for Kim/Renee or Kim/Renee/Mairelon, of any level of explicitness. But I'm also really fascinated by Kim's adjustment to living as both a girl and an upper-class wizard -- it's so sad to me that that adjustment period is just totally skipped between books. So anything that delves into the contradictions in Kim's identity -- her gender, her sexuality, her class -- would be amazing.
Characters: Horatio, Ophelia
Hamlet is hands down my favorite Shakespeare play, and I'm particularly interested in the characters who are in love with/orbiting Hamlet: Horatio and Ophelia. Something with a magical realist bent (descents into the underworld? immortality? ghosts? psychic powers?) would make me the happiest person in the world. If you're looking for specific versions of the play for inspiration, I'm particularly fond of David Tennant's take, and of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and Slings & Arrows. Olivier is lolarious; I love him ironically.
Any kind of cracky AU would make me kick my feet in glee as well.
Characters: Any
Post-canon or pre-canon fic! Did Janet finish school? How do she and Thomas deal with the extraordinary things they experienced? What's the baby like? Did Molly and Robin stay together? Did Tina find love? Will Janet ever be able to enjoy Twelfth Night again knowing Feste was written for someone she knows? Or! How did Robin and Nick and Rob get wrapped up in Medeous' court? What are Victoria Thompson and Margaret Roxburgh's stories? (Are they actually haunting the campus?) What's the fairy queen's side of the story?
One more time -- thank you so so much for taking the time to create something for me. I hope you have a great time, and I can't wait to read it.
