adiva_calandia*cackling* Okay, you remember the woman I wrote to Miss Manners about?
She was in the front row of the church tonight, when I was cantoring.
And I got told by one guy that I "have a voice like an angel," and he was glad he'd come to the Children's Mass and heard me sing.
SO THERE, LADY. I may be rude, but I am, in fact, AWESOME.
It was a good mass. The kids doing the Nativity play were adorably lost, which really is how children's Nativity plays should be, I think. Although the little choir of angels sang this bizarre song, about -- well:
Verse 1 -- Some children see him lily-white, with tresses soft and fair
Verse 2 -- Some children see him bronze and brown, with dark and heavy hair
Verse 3 -- Some children see him almond-eyed, with skin of yellow hue
Verse 4 -- Some children see him dark as they, and they love him too
Verse 5 & 6 -- Didn't care, too busy going "Wait, seriously?"
I was probably the only person in the congregation who could hear all the lyrics, since I was sitting right behind the kids. And seriously -- what? I think there's a touching message about Christ being Christ to every race no matter what in there, but it got a little buried under the whole reducing race to component parts thing.
Thankfully, the rest of the songs were lovely. I've heard it said that when you sing, you pray twice, and I always feel closest to God when there's music going on.
There -- that's all the religion I'll get into, to spare the people on my f-list who aren't into that kind of thing, and switch into saying man, I go all crazy vibrato when I'm singing Christmas carols, and it annoys me because I'm like "NO. PURE TONES, DAMMIT." I need to take some real voice lessons.
Merry Christmas, to those of you who celebrate; happy day-everything-is-closed to those who don't; I sincerely hope you have a happy day no matter what.
