adiva_calandia: (All will be well)
Okay, so. I'm in Pittsburgh. I do not have a bed, so I'm sleeping in the as-yet-empty master bedroom.

There are a billion things I should be doing, probably, and I barely know where to start. Unpacking; trying to find a bike on craigslist; trying to find a futon anywhere; trying to find someone with a car to help me transport a futon . . . Not to mention that I'm already committed to doing work for one of my advisors tomorrow, then meeting with her Thursday, then meeting with someone to discuss using their venue for a festival in October . . .

Just. I'm excited to be in Pittsburgh, I'm excited to be starting school, I'm excited to be living off-campus, but there's all this responsible adulthood to deal with, and it's just -- yesterday I was eating homemade cake in the house where I've spent every August as long as I can remember, y'know? I don't feel real qualified to be a responsible adult at the moment.

Aw, fuck, I'm getting maudlin and homesick and I've been away from my parents less than twenty-four hours. I should go get some lunch and coffee and see about unpacking some stuff, doing something productive. That'll make me feel better.

On a more cheerful note! I gave in and got the big honkin' Rihannsu anthology for the train. I didn't get that far into The Romulan Way before I fell asleep, but I did get far enough to get to the passenger list for the cruiser McCoy's on, the Vega.

And its inclusion of one H'rewiss.

OH DIANE DUANE YES.

I found a mattress in the basement! There are a few stains and it was dusty as hell, but it seems relatively clean. I vacuumed it twice, and I'll find a slipcover for it.

Eating pizza with housemate KL and good friend KG helped a lot. So did catching the first half hour of Sneakers on TV. (It came on just after the climactic competition sequence of something called Blow Dry, which stars Alan Rickman and Bill Nighy as fabulous hairdressers. --And that WAS Josh Hartnett! With a Scottish accent! And I think there were incidental lesbians. I don't even know. It was amazing.)

Now we're at KG's very nice apartment, sponging off her wireless and listening to Janis Joplin sing summertime and the living is easy ... baby baby baby no no no don't you cry on vinyl.

Life is pretty good, now.
