"Come, I will have thee. But by this light, I take thee for granted."

"--for pity! I take thee for pity."

"I would . . . I would . . ."

"You take her for GRANTED? That's how you screwed it up last time!"

So a while back, Mom got a box of something called Amy's Kitchen Palak Paneer. Palak paneer (or saag paneer), for you poor unitiated, is Indiane spinach, spices, and cheese, and it's just about my favorite dish in the world, surmounted only by saag aloo -- the same thing, with potatoes. About twenty minutes ago I decided to nuke it and give it a shot.

It knocked me out.

No, I'm serious. I took a bite, and the temperature and spiciness apparently made me hyperventilate, and dropped my blood pressure enough that I passed out and fell out of my chair. Luckily, Dad was right there, and he jumped up and got me over to the couch.

That's some powerful Indian food, right there.

The hyperventilation/vaso vagal response is the working theory, but we're pretty well mystified that a bite of spicy food could knock me over like that. I haven't missed any meals today, I don't feel dehyrdrated (although you can bet I'm downing water right now) . . . I feel fine now. And I even finished the palak paneer with no more adverse side effects, after it had cooled down.

WTF, body. W. T. F.

*laughs* I don't know if this is an endorsement for Amy's Kitchen Indian food, or a warning.
