Alaskan moment of the day: I walked over to get coffee and was headed over
to Quizno's to get soup for lunch before returning to school -- and then had
to change my plans because there was a moose hanging out on the road. And
it's really freaking cold out, so I didn't feel like detouring around
on N. Lights.

Silly moose. Ah, well. I'll probably head back out during my last free
period and try again; I really want food, because I have to present my
peer-taught proposal after school today. At least I got coffee.

My playlist, if I don't turn on shuffle, plays "Both Hands," "Boulevard of
Broken Dreams," and "Boulevard of Broken Songs" in that order, which makes
for a nice walking soundtrack.

I'm reading To Your Scattered Bodies Go, the first book in the
Riverworld series by Philip Jose Farmer. My dad credits this series with
ruining fiction for him -- after reading them, there was nothing that could
compare. I'm . . . not so sure it's going to ruin fiction for me. The
concepts are interesting, but the writing isn't gripping. It reminds me a
lot of Perelandra, only with less religion and more people with
annoying Victorian social mores.

Anyway, it's a thin book. When I'm done with it, Eye of the World is
next on my list. I picked up a copy at the used bookstore, sat down and read
for a bit. After the first mention of Rand's "flame and void," and then the
mention of Nynaeve and her braid-tugging a few pages later, I decided that
okay, okay, I can probably put aside my high fantasy prejudices for this.
We'll see, though.

Finished watching the 1933 King Kong in class today. Conclusion? The
2005 version is a lot more interesting.

Also it has Adrien Brody, which, well. >.>
