So I finally listened to Commentary! The Musical last night.

And when Marissa started singing "Nobody's Asian in the Movies," my jaw dropped. When my friends started trying to talk and laugh I went "SHHHH I'M TRYING TO LISTEN."

While I love the Whedons, I really was not expecting that issue to come up in Commentary!, and I salute them. I also really enjoyed "Heart, Broken," and "The Art," which are the kind of goofy-yet-serious we're-addressing-an-issue songs I would have expected, but "Nobody's Asian in the Movies" takes the cake.

Alas, it doesn't actually fix what Joss did wrong over and over himself. Mentioning it is not the same thing as explaining why there were no Asians in Firefly, or Angel's LA.

(Had at least two conversations this weekend that were all about why we don't love Joss so much now.)

Srs.

(Also, my single favorite line in Commentary!: "Felicia / You were great, kid / But you just had to die / 'Cause there's no team in I.")
