Reading My Enemy, My Ally. Vastly in love with Ael t'Rllaillieu (even
if I can't write her name without reference), and even more in love with
Ael's interactions with Spock. At this rate, will end up doing a [livejournal.com profile] mixed_muses post that's all Diane Duane, all the time -- Sunspark,
Ael, Nita, Carmela, and I don't know, the Lone Power or something thrown in
to round it out. (Where would one find a PB for a book-canon female Romulan,
though? Or would one just do some clever cropping to hide the ears? . . .)

*gigglefits*

I think she's pretty much already there, yes.

Well, I do try to keep her reasonable. It is easier with [livejournal.com profile] mad_patron, who is at least not a Downsider.

Put like that, though, it wouldn't hurt to send Peahen to the Lone One for a chat. Following which she would definitely handcuff It to Chainsaw for kicks.

....Actually, hang on.

How do you feel about the Lone Power getting canon-punctured?

'Cause Peahen will try not to be too meta, but she has read the books.

[identity profile] mm-adiva.livejournal.com 2009-08-03 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Image I don't anticipate a problem with that.

[identity profile] mm-adiva.livejournal.com 2009-08-03 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
ImageHmm?

Surely you don't think a little thing like hearing my exploits are written down will faze me. They're already recorded in some form on every planet and world I've visited, after all. And you can rest assured I'm there in Mz. Duane's world.

[identity profile] velvet-fangs.livejournal.com 2009-08-03 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, let's try to put the meta on a slightly more even footing here.

It's not really the written-down part that gets to most people, hon. It's the idea that somebody else made you up. You and your entire universe and everyone in it.

[identity profile] mm-adiva.livejournal.com 2009-08-03 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs*

I know I'm real. I'm the realest thing there is.

[identity profile] velvet-fangs.livejournal.com 2009-08-03 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
No shit, Sherlock. And so am I, and so's Downside. I've been there long enough to be pretty sure of that.

"Realest thing there is", though? What's the scope of that statement, exactly?

[identity profile] mm-adiva.livejournal.com 2009-08-03 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
ImageThe Universe. *bone-dry* As some young acquaintances of mine would say, "Duh."

[identity profile] velvet-fangs.livejournal.com 2009-08-03 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
There's more than one universe, and you're not in all of them.

[identity profile] velvet-fangs.livejournal.com 2009-08-03 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a Downsider, honey.

You and your whole depressing bitch of a universe can blow me.

[identity profile] mm-adiva.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Image *laughs* Because your little universe is so much less depressing? Oh, I know I don't have a foothold there, thanks to your upstairs help. But you created a playground that even I admire.

Your pet power tool, for instance -- I can't thank you enough for the pain and terror and misery he's caused here.

[identity profile] velvet-fangs.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Pain and terror and misery? Chainsaw?

C'mon. Really. If you're gonna get on my case for a Downsider, pick Jazz, who actually doesn't have any redeeming qualities. Chainsaw helps more than he hurts by a long shot.

[identity profile] mm-adiva.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
ImageHere? You might ask one Will Graham about that. *grins* Or several, for that matter. Or that Irishman. That was a lovely piece of work, I must say -- even if the boy does pull through and make it out of here alive, it'll be years before he recovers from that particular violation. And he'll take it out on others. Have no doubt about that.

Besides, in the larger picture -- and I do prefer the larger picture -- Chainsaw's been inflicting pain and terror and misery on Downsiders for longer than some planets have had life.

[identity profile] velvet-fangs.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
You don't really pay attention, do you.

Here's a big picture for you: in the long run, things are always getting better. Never worse. Basic principle of Downside. Might not look it from the ground, but wait a couple thousand and see.

Chainsaw started out as the biggest bastard under the cliffs, straight-up. No excuses, no mercy, no regrets. And now look at him - falling in love right and left, learning how to be a good guy without losing his edge.

I'm glad you're happy with him as king of the Downside hill, 'cause so am I. And I don't think he's going down anytime soon.

[identity profile] mm-adiva.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Image And you seem to be ignoring the very rules of the world you created. Chainsaw is hardly the only person Downside making it hell, although he's been the most effective one. The very institution of the Crescent proves that -- there would be no need for contractors if your upstairs help hadn't foolishly delegated her work to people with more vindictiveness than mercy.

And there will always be someone stepping up to fill Chainsaw's shoes. Who's that nuclear one? Wonderfully creative. The best of humanity. *smile* And beautiful when he's broken. I expect Chainsaw would agree.

Almost as beautiful as that thorn in my side that you and your friends ripped out of Timeheart for me.

[identity profile] velvet-fangs.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
...I'm sorry, I'm starting to think this isn't a fair conversation, what with you being limited by your mun's knowledge base.

Yeah, Chainsaw gets knocked over eventually. Guess who pulls his ass out of the fire? Starts with an E. Which pretty much sets the pattern for the rest of forever, and trust me, he's only gonna get sappier from here.
