Statements About Sarah Palin That Enrage Me Regardless of Political Leanings, by Me, age 19 and 5/6
"Yeah, she was governor of all five people in Alaska!" (Classmate, Directing II. In re: a woman quoted in the New York Times as hailing her twenty months as governor as more experienced than Obama.)
"She's a cunt." (Other classmate, Feminist Lit class. In re: Palin in general.)
. . . Wow, ten and a half hours later that second one still makes me want to punch something for about three different reasons.

I've seen comparisons of people done with Alaska re: cities in America. Not exactly sure of the relevance of them, but, *blinks*
And the second...yeah, I'm with you on the punching through walls.

And politics-wise, we have a fairly unique system of government that deals with totally unique issues in the US. We also have a shit-ton of corruption -- in both parties. The fact that we have few people is immaterial to both those facts.
Rrrrrr. As for "cunt," I am all for reclaiming the word, but using it in a derogatory, dismissive, knee-jerk fashion towards a woman IS NOT RECLAMATION.

I'm just hoping the people actually representing the Democrats don't display that kind of irrational hatred. It's often sexist, and completely distracts from what are becoming numerous real issues that can be brought up concerning Palin's candidacy.

You know all this. >( The whole thing just makes me want to scream.
*Someone asked me if I could tell them about her voting record, and I kind of stared at them and said "She doesn't, um, have a voting record. As such. You know?"

But as for the Alaska comment, well, the "she has more experience" thing is such a crock that I don't even care if I'm made fun of in the process. Urgh.

"Okay, the Alaskan is leaving the conversation right now if it's going down that route."
The actual discussion of her in class was still heated, but actually rather balanced in terms of people arguing that she could be taking feminist actions -- say, governing while raising five kids -- and not be feminist -- say, attempting to pass legislation about reproductive rights that takes them away (although the whole ideas of feminist = pro-choice and feminist = liberal were also called into question).

...Golly, other classmate, your well-worded and nonbiased summation really has me convinced.
(You know I've been on the internet too long when I want to say "con crit, don't flame". >_>)

I mean, I expect thoughtless commentary from that classmate, but I really expected better than that from her.

Although I actually don't mind her in herself; I'm seriously considering sending her some kind of note saying "Hey, if you're in Pittsburgh since we're a battleground state 'n' all, I'd love to get coffee with a real Alaskan."
And, y'know, hope that I could then keep the conversation from ever cycling around to the "I find your social legislation sickening and reprehensible" thing.

I don't know, you're just kind of awesome right now, okay?
(PS: What's that picture in your icon and why do I find it familiar?)
