Just finished Tin Man.

Verdict: A gleeful "UNSUBTLE."

That was a LAME final two minutes, but a perfect end-line. But, just -- loose ends much?

I literally started flailing in glee when DG stepped into the grayscale Kansas. YES. YES YES YES. But that scene as a whole was, um, super anti-climactic.

Huge props to the show for letting DG get herself out of the coffin. Yes. That scene also had the only acting out of Zooey Deschanel the whole six hours!

Jeb and Cain? AWKWARD. Awkward LOVE.

Man, I was really pulling for Ambrose being DG and Azkadelia's father, and him and Lavender Eyes having a whole, like, Queen Elizabeth thing going on. However, Ohamo and LE together are pretty freaking adorable. And him coming over in a hot-air balloon? YES. OH MAN.

I can't shake the feeling that DG and Cain ought to have UST. Which is really weird, because he's just about old enough to be her father, but . . . I dunno. There's no romantic sub-plot at all! That's weird! And they sure spent a lot of time making eye contact.

Plus I have, as previously discussed, something of a kink for student/mentor ships. *shifty* *waves Daine/Numair, Kim/Mairelon, and Thomasina/Septimus flags*

I feel my Marxist analysis stands through the third part. *buffs nails*

Oh -- Azkadelia is really good! So's her child actor. I don't mind Zooey Deschanel that much, but I think she pales somewhat beside Kathleen Robertson -- and the child actor gave the blankest performance I have ever seen.

The world-building, being several hundred years down the road from the Oz books, is . . . a little problematic in places. Dorothy Gale was a princess, yes, but what happened to Ozma? And wasn't there something about people not aging in Oz? Oh, and what fuckwit brought guns into Oz? I'll bet it was the Nome King, that bastard.

That said, STEAMPUNK-Y GOODNESS OH MY LORD.

Final point: A problem. As Lynne pointed out when we were watching Monday, Toto is quite literally a magical negro. A DOUBLE-CROSSING magical negro (who I guess it ultimately redeemed, and at least they didn't kill him with a cattle prod, but come on).

But that's not all! DG gets TWO magical negroes for the price of one! Raoul Trujillo is Apache, actually, but I feel the character Raw fulfills the same purpose. And, I mean -- I can deal with the viewers being the sensitive, empathetic, natural types, but do they have to talk like the Indians from old cowboy movies? Really?

In conclusion: A ton of fun.

And Alan Cumming is the best ever, and if I ever get to work with him, my life will be complete.
