So Dad gave me another portable hard drive today that is the exact same make and look as my old one, which meant that I had to label and name both. My first instinct for the older one was to name it Hephaestos for no reason I could clearly see, but I finally settled on Prometheus for the older and Epimetheus for the younger.
Which also means that finally, I have a name for my computer, who both sons of Iapetos plug into: Gaia. She's kind of crotchety sometimes, and a little crowded, and has a tendency to overheat, and sometimes she moves slow as molasses, with occasional bursts of disaster . . . but she takes care of me.
I am pondering whether this means I should rename my iPod (Louise the Lesser), but I do like her name so much. (I had originally considered naming my hard drives in the L'Engle theme OH CRAP MAYBE I SHOULD NAME THEM SANDY AND DENNYS. But then I still don't have a name for the computer! I mean, maybe "Cosmos" or "Heaven" but that implies a hell of a lot more order and purpose and functionality than is evident in this baby. DILEMMA.)
The other important part of this evening was discovering that VLC can be run on Windows, which means that now I can finally watch that .ogm version of Hedwig and the Angry Inch that's been sitting around onPrometheus Sandy my old external hard drive since the summer!
