I should mention.

I got a call from my parents tonight to catch up, make sure I'm still alive, and my mother casually -- really weirdly casually -- dropped in that they were mailing me an obit from the paper of a young man, born in '88, who went to the same elementary school I went to, in the same program, same years. He was in the parallel class, so I didn't really know him, but I kind of know one of his brothers through the magic club we were a part of, and their mother started working at my high school my senior year.

He died last week. "Suddenly," says the obit. I thought at first that that must be a euphemism for "suicide," but the final lines of the obit mention him asking, in his last conversation with his family, that they "pray for him always." I guess that doesn't rule out suicide, but it makes it sound less likely.

I don't know how I feel about this. Thrown off, mostly, I guess. I barely knew him. What bothers me most is that I barely remember him. He must have been around, but . . .

And he was my age. That's pretty off-throwing, too.

So if anyone wants to say prayer for Branden Samorajski and his family -- they'd appreciate it, I think.
