HAHAHAHAHA.

We just watched the beginning and end of Emperor's New Groove in World History to explain how Disney's view of the Andes reflects more the Andes after the Spanish conquest than the Andes under Inca rule -- including, most tellingly, Sam and Ralph.

MOST HILARIOUS THING EVER.

We also talked about the gender politics of Yzma being evil and powerful and Chica being good and pregnant.

.... So I'm working on a presentation I'm doing tomorrow on Wole Soyinka's The Bacchae of Euripides (which, incidentally, I highly recommend to my f-list, both Soyinka's version and Euripides'). Soyinka's play blends Greek myth, Christian sensibility, and Yoruba religion. So I go to look up Yoruba religion.
The ideology that is present here is called orisa.

*... weakly* Okay then. I am in a library, I'm not allowed to yell. Or, for that matter, make muffled noises of Gotcha, Sai King!

(It's worth noting, perhaps, that Wikipedia says that the term is orisha. Whatever. My eyes bugged out anyway.)
