Doctor Who season finale:
#NOTHING MAKES SENSE
HE KILLED AND BROUGHT BACK THE LESBIAN TWICE. MOFFATTTTTT.
ALL THE SHIT WITH RIVER MADE NO SENSE AT ALL.
I REALLY DISLIKE THE DOCTOR BEING THE GODDAMN LINCHPIN OF THE UNIVERSE although I accept that it makes sense in terms of the arc of the Doctor's character, like, RTD made him more and more and more important to the integrity of the universe so I guess it makes sense for Moffat to take him all the way to "if the Doctor goes THE UNIVERSE GOES" but man I dislike it.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK'S GOING ON WITH JOHN HURT BUT I'M EXTREMELY DUBIOUS ABOUT IT ALL.
And then “My sassy lady is so much better than every sassy lady that’s ever come before, that I am going to establish that every sassy lady that’s ever come before ACTUALLY IS my sassy lady.” Including ACE. ghjkljklfdsa
Things I do salute Moffat for:
1. The concept of Clara being scattered about the universe could provide for some really awesome episode set-ups for next season. If next season were just about "Gotta catch 'em all!" with bits of Clara and the Doctor got to run around time and space finding her and Jenna Louise Coleman got to play all kinds of strange versions of Clara, that would be awesome. If it's just going to be about the Doctor's manpain, UGH.
2. Creepy-ass nursery rhymes.
3. Creepy-ass uncanny valley monsters.
4. Strax and Jenny and Vastra are just about flawless, I gotta say.
BLERGH.

Date: 2013-05-19 04:25 am (UTC)It was a reminder of how much of his talent and the talent of the fantastic cast has been wasted.
I loved the seance and wanted more of all of them and what they know. Just more time and more thought in every way possible. It did have me at the edge of my seat all the way through because Moffat can write finales, I just wish they held up better on a second look.

Date: 2013-05-19 04:41 am (UTC)I did like how SM worked quite a bit of Wholore into it--particularly the Valeyard reference, which I assume will be the name Hurt will be taking instead of the Doctor. (Then again, the new series has never hesitated to throw old series ideas under the bus (usually for less interesting choices), so we'll have to see.)
Not sure I follow your point about "sassy girls," but you may have picked up on something that I missed on my first viewing.

Date: 2013-05-20 09:00 pm (UTC)The more I think about it, the more it just ... doesn't make sense. It's somewhat less egregiously chauvinistic than a lot of Moffat's stuff, but NOTHING MAKES SENSE. Where is River? Why is River? What is the Intelligence doing? Wtf happens in the ending sequence with Clara and Eleven? Why is the pacing so bad? What is going on??????
